AOL's Suggestions

The following is the text of a message sent by "AOL Live Help" to an AOL subscriber with suggestions for resolving the problem of AOL blocking her receipt of Mr. Modem's Weekly Newsletter each week:

"Hi _____,

This is Lhyn from AOL Live Help. There are several possible causes for the problem you described, and I have therefore provided a number of solutions. Please try checking after each one to see if it resolves your issue. If not, please try the next procedure listed. I suggest you store a copy of this email for future reference.

A. CHECK YOUR MAIL CONTROLS

Please verify that the Mail Controls is not blocking the sender's screen name, email address or domain. (MrModem@MrModem.net)

NOTE: You need to be signed on to a Master Screen Name or a Screen Name on a General Access category to adjust the Mail Controls. A Master Screen Name is the first screen name you created for this account and any screen name you have assigned Master Screen Name status at AOL Keyword: Names.

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Spam Controls.

2. In the Select the Screen Name drop-down menu, select the Screen Name whose Mail Controls you wish to adjust. For Screen Names on a General Access category, you can only adjust the Mail Controls for the Screen Name itself.

3. Click 'Custom Sender List' link.

4. Select for the Screen Name, e-mail address, or domain that you would like to unblock on the list of e-mail addresses you have blocked, then click REMOVE.

5. Click SAVE.

6. Click SAVE on the Mail and Spam Controls window.

B. CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER

Check your Spam Folder to ensure your spam filters have not caught any mail incorrectly.

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Spam Folder.

2. If you see any newsletters sent by Mr. Modem, select it, then click "THIS IS NOT SPAM." AOL will then look for similar mail and make sure to place them in your Inbox.

C. CHECK YOUR SPAM CONTROL SETTINGS

Until the issue is resolved, I recommend that you set your Spam Controls settings as follows:

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Spam Controls.

2. Under "Blocked Mail Should Be", select 'Delivered to the Spam Folder'. In this way, you will be able to locate e-mail that has been blocked by checking your Spam Folder.

3. Under "Control What is in the Mail I Get", click the AOL'S ADVANCED SPAM FILTER link.

4. On the window that appears, click CLEAR FILTER.

5. Uncheck 'Mail with clickable hyperlinks (URLs)', then click SAVE.

D. ADD THE SENDER ON THE ADDRESS BOOK

To bypass your Mail and Spam Controls and possible blocks from AOL's Spam Filters, add the email address MrModem@MrModem.net to your AOL Address Book. Mail from senders in your Address Book will be delivered to you regardless of the blocks you've set.

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Address Book.

2. Click ADD.

3. Type the information under the Contact, Home, Work, or Details tabs, and when you have finished, click SAVE.

If you need further assistance, please return to AOL Keyword: Live Help and we will be more than happy to assist you.
